Heathrow Airport receives Friendly WiFi Certification

Heathrow Airport are pleased to announce that its public WiFi services have been certified by the Friendly WiFi initiative. The certification enhances online protection for passengers travelling through Heathrow Airport and is a great addition to the recent certification awarded to the Heathrow Express service.

Friendly WiFi is a government-initiated safe certification standard for public WiFi. It was launched in 2014 to ensure public WiFi meets minimum filtering standards, particularly in those areas where children are present. Venues displaying the Friendly WiFi symbol have WiFi filters designed to deny access to pornography and webpages known by reputable and certified block lists that host indecent images and advertisements or links to such content.

Heathrow’s Chief Commercial Officer Ross Baker said: “Our ambition is to provide the world’s best airport service for all our passengers – no matter their age. As a parent myself, I am especially pleased that we now offer certified “Friendly WiFi” which will keep our youngest passengers safe online, and give parents the reassurance and peace of mind they deserve in their travels through the airport.”

Caroline Dinenage, Minister of State for Digital and Culture, said: "Heathrow's family friendly WiFi will give parents peace of mind that their children can surf the web safely as they pass through this world-famous airport. I encourage others in the transport sector to follow suit. We are developing tough new laws to make the UK a safer place to be online but it is important that the industry also put solutions in place to protect young people from inappropriate content."
