Have you upgraded to Windows 11?

Windows 11

Windows 11 is Microsoft’s latest Operating System (OS). It was launched in October 2021 and Microsoft have been regularly improving and patching it, ever since.

Support for its predecessor (Windows 10) will end in 2025 and although that is still some time off, if you haven’t yet upgraded to the new OS, you could be missing out on some of its advantages.

Whilst Microsoft will still, no doubt, have more refining to do over the coming months and years, it is generally agreed that Windows 11 is simpler, has a more streamlined look and feel, and is more secure than Windows 10.

One of the key benefits of Windows 11 is the automatic inclusion of Bitlocker encryption. As well as encrypting data and preventing any unauthorised parties gaining access to your PC or laptop if if is lost or stolen, Bitlocker also makes devices more resilient to malware.

However, your hardware needs to meet some minimum requirements in terms of technical specifications. In order to run Windows 11 your PC or laptop needs to have:

  • TPM: Trusted Platform Module (TPM) version 2.0

  • RAM: 4GB

  • Storage: 64GB or larger

  • CPU: 1 (GHz) or faster with two or more cores on a compatible 64-bit processor

  • System firmware: UEFI, Secure Boot capable

  • Graphics card: Compatible with DirectX 12 or later with WDDM 2.0 driver

  • Display: High definition (720p) display that is greater than 9” diagonally, 8 bits per colour channel
